What is Sandbox?
Sandbox is a global community of carefully selected extraordinary achievers under 30. We work to provide our members with the best possible environment for accelerating them to be global leaders in their field when they reach 30.
Why is it called Sandbox?
When children play in their sandbox there are no limits to imagination, creativity and collaboration. When they grow up, those who still see no limits to their potential continue to play in the Sandbox.
How is Sandbox organized?
At Sandbox, we believe that decentralization is vital for empowering our members. Our team works from four locations worldwide to support our local strongholds, the Sandbox hubs. Each hub is managed by a team of volunteer ambassadors, members who organize events and keep things together on the ground. We have also appointed thematic ambassadors, who bring together members from across the globe who are active in the same field.
When was Sandbox established?
Sandbox officially entered the world as a corporation on a crisp spring day in May 2009.
Who started Sandbox?
Sandbox was founded in Zurich, Switzerland by Christian Busch, Nico Luchsinger, Fabian Pfortmueller, Antoine Verdon, Severin Ruegger and Noé Blancpain.
Why was Sandbox founded?
Sandbox was first created to give the most awesome young changemakers a meeting space where they could come together and help each other. Today we are working on a larger scale with a higher ambition, but our intention remains the same.
Is Sandbox a non-profit or for-profit organization?
Sandbox is a company limited by shares that is registered in Switzerland. We believe that being financially sustainable is the best way to achieve our mission. As a for-profit social enterprise we act independently and share the entrepreneurial spirit with our members.
How does Sandbox earn money?
Sandbox currently has two revenue streams. Firstly, we advise, together with selected members from our community, a number of large companies and organizations and help them develop new ideas and strategies. Secondly, we organize larger events such as our Global Summit, where we earn money through partnership agreements and attendance fees.
Who are the members of Sandbox today?
Our community consists of a broad range of exceptional people worldwide that already have brought about impressive change at a young age, no matter in what field or industry. Sandboxers include but are absolutely not limited to: entrepreneurs, singers, journalists, NGO founders, business leaders, designers, programmers, scholars, media personalities, venture capitalists, politicians, adventurers, marketers and hackers. Mission
What is the purpose of Sandbox?
The overarching mission of Sandbox is to give the most promising young achievers worldwide an eco-system that accelerates them to have a global impact before they are 30.
What do you mean by “accelerating” someone?
Sandboxers are already successful in the field they are active in. What we do is help them develop their projects and skills, and increase their reach globally. We do this by offering Sandboxers connections, tools, support and inspiration.
Membership
Who decides who can be a member of Sandbox?
Before applying, an applicant must be referred to Sandbox by one of our appointed referrers. Applicants are then evaluated by the Sandbox team, who take the final decision.
How much time and effort should I commit to Sandbox?
We expect Sandboxers to be active in the community. What we ask for as a baseline is that members join local events when possible, keep their online profile updated and handle communication responsively. The Sandbox Code describes the member behavior that we encourage.

I’m already a member of another entrepreneurial network. Can I still apply for Sandbox?
Being a member of other networks is not an obstacle when you apply to Sandbox. But what networks you belong to will not affect your chances of being approved as a Sandbox member.
Hubs
What is a Sandbox hub?
A hub is a location where we have established a local community of Sandboxers who are coordinated by one or more ambassadors. We are constantly expanding our global presence with new hubs. Find out more about the locations on the hub overview page.
How is each hub managed?
In each hub there is at least one Sandboxer acting as a volunteer Sandbox ambassador. Our ambassadors coordinate local events and manage day-to-day communication with the local community. The Sandbox team works closely with ambassadors to support them and coordinate hub activity on the global scale.
How can I apply to Sandbox if there is no hub in my city?
We are currently not accepting applications from people who are not based in one of our hub locations. This is to ensure that all members we take on board can participate fully and get as much value as possible from their membership. Please sign up here and you will be the first to know when we come to your area.
Can I attend events in my city without being a member?
We regularly organize open events at our hubs. Find out what is going on and get in touch via the hub overview.
Where is Sandbox planning to open new hubs?
Like the rest of Sandbox, our hub network grows organically. The map here presents our current locations and expansion plans.
Can I create a new hub?
