Exciting news: Wuala and LaCie are merging

March 19th, 2009 by Sandbox

Today, Swiss online storage startup Wuala announced that they are merging with LaCie, a French manufacturer of external storage devices. The intention to combine the service of Wuala, which provides a distributed online storage solution, with the hardware of LaCie in order to “revolutionize data storage”. The deal is obviously a great success for the Wuala team – after all, LaCie is an international company with a yearly revenue of 400 million Euros and 400 employees (compared to Wualas 9).

Wuala CEO Dominik Grolimund and Head of Business Development Andi Brenner have been long-time Sandbox supporters and frequent guests at our dinners. We congratulate them and their team and are looking forward to all the new innovation coming out of this exciting cooperation!

@Andi: Great, I'll actually send the invites for the next Zurich dinner tomorrow.

@Olivia: There are still young, but definitely one of the hottest European start-ups of the moment!

Hey Antoine,

Thank you very much for the cheerful blogpost. We are in fact really excited about this deal because it makes perfect sense in the short-run and in the long-run. Hopefully we'll have a chance to talk at the next Sandbox dinner :-)

Cheers,
Andi

Actually hadn't heard of either company here in the states. Merger sounds fantastic. Both products seem worth looking into too.

Thanks for the update!
