ON-CAMPUS FUNDING
A lot of great ideas and innovation originate in universities, and almost every university in the world has developed some sort of startup program to help entrepreneurial students realize their visions. But Stanford University, birthplace of such successful startups like Sun, Yahoo or Google, takes it one step further.
As TechCrunch reported a few days ago, the SSE (Stanford Student Enterprises, the business outlet of Stanford’s student association) has started SSE Ventures, a venture capital fund exclusively for startups run by Stanford undergraduates and graduates.
I think this is a great idea, because it gives student founded startups direct access to capital and strengthens the link between companies and the universities even after the founders have graduated – something that most certainly benefits the university. Does anybody know if there are other universities with some sort of on-campus funding?

just received this from a colleague: we have obvious connections in name and in intent.
we are starting an ncaa of academics (as opposed to athletics). our dmsc (digital media sandbox consortium) is our ncaa model, non profit, run by faculty and students.
we are in our 4th iteration. would love to speak with you further about collaboration.
best,
