Sandbox Innovation Tram casting in Zurich

Tram casting in Zurich

April 1st, 2009 by Sandbox

A nice concept seen this morning on my way to the office: a tram casting. The local public transport company wants to renew its fleet, but is not sure if the public would like the new model they planned to buy. So they borrowed a vehicle from another swiss city using them already, and they branded them in yellow with the mention “swiss first tram casting”.

The passengers can give their opinion online, or fill a feedback form. If after one month, the reaction is positive, they will buy them. If not, they will continue the casting with another model. Isn’t this a great way to engage your customers and to make sure they are happy?

Good idea, Marco, would be fantastic if the users could choose the itinerary of a new bus line, where it should stop, and how often the buses should come!

It's definitely a good idea! Public transports is usually the ultimate public-based service, and any steps toward a more open-source model should be welcome.

Other ideas, for example, could involve development help from user, allowing them to create applications, maps, schedules, just like Twitter and its third-party applications.

I think this is a really interesting idea. It's too bad that they're not auditioning multiple types at once though. I'd be tempted to give the first one a bad rating just so I could see the other options.

But it's great that they care enough to solicit customer feedback.
