Sandbox meets the Dalai Lama Center

Last Friday, some lucky Sandboxers from Zurich and around had the great pleasure to meet up for two hours with Victor Chan, founder of the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education in Vancouver. Sandboxer Dominik Grolimund – Founder & CEO of Wuala – was nice enough to open us his office for the occasion and Cathrin did a great job putting the event together.
A close friend of the Dalai Lama, Victor is a very inspiring person. He was just back from India where he attended the Kumbh Mela, the biggest Hindu pilgrimage which takes place every 12 years.
The Dalai Lama Center in Vancouver is a school, which goal is to develop new ways of teaching and implement them into the education system of British Columbia. Victor believes that today’s students are being distracted too easily and that they are losing their ability to focus and discipline. He wants to reverse this tendency by “educating the heart”, teaching the students to focus through meditation, but also by playing instruments, doing sports or dancing. More focus brings more inner well-being, mindfulness and creativity. Even better, it makes people more compassionate and eventually, it will improve the world.
We discussed about several other interesting topics and we learned about the initiatives on which the Dalai Lama is currently working. The evening passed too fast and we left open the question of how Sandboxers can help Victor Chan achieve his missions and visions. Maybe you have the answer?
