The Sandbox Playbook: A Guide for an Entrepreneurial LifeAugust 3rd, 2012 by Tahnee Prior
Exciting news – we’ve officially released the Sandbox Playbook today!
The Playbook & Global Summit
It’s been several months since 200 Sandboxers spent 72 hours in Lisbon at the Sandbox Global Summit. Since then, the Sandbox team in Zurich has been working hard to create a book that reflects how Sandboxers think and act – the Playbook. In contrast to traditional speaker-led conferences, the Summit included 72 interactive and participant-led sessions – from William McQuillan‘s “How to have the luck of the Irish and pour the perfect pint of Guiness” to Kalsoom Lakhani and Achyutha Sharma‘s “Social enterprise future moulded by Asia”. After each session, Sandboxers expressed their insights by drawing and writing on the walls of MUDE, Lisbon’s Museum of Design and Fashion.
From Front to Back
We collected these rules, principles, and recommendations for an entrepreneurial life. Feeding off of the Summit‘s vibrant energy, the Sandbox team has spent the past few months sorting through hundreds of pages, designing the Playbook, and making sure that the book travels across the globe to its many authors. Piles upon piles of unedited Playbook pages were stacked on Richard Hylerstedt‘s desk for weeks and the team spent hours looking over every single page, deciding which would make it into the final book. Stacks labelled “yes”, “maybe”, and “no” shifted on a day-to-day basis as Richard invested countless hours of his boundless energy into designing a gem of a book. Unfortunately, not all pages made it into the book. However, you can still see some of our favourites here.
The Playbook was recently printed with the great support of our partners at Bloomberg Businessweek. Its meticulous cover has been designed by Oupas, the same ladies who decked out MUDE in their smart cardboard creations. The book’s content is divided into four sections – Connect, Reflect, Act, and Innovate. Flip through our digital version to find out how Sandboxers communicate and build relationships; share their personal philosophy and thought exercises; take action; and receive insights on innovation, business, and leadership. Meet some of our many Playbook authors on the Playbook’s pages – from guerilla filmmaker and cheese loving Alicia Sully to our email-addicted educator Kane Sarhan. We are beyond excited to have all of them as a part of our family!
Sandbox & The Plabook
In the end, the Playbook is a manifestation of the diversity and passion displayed by Sandboxers around the world. It’s not a self‐help book that gives you a quick fix for all of life’s challenges. It’s a collection of thoughts from some of today’s smartest and most dedicated young people. It doesn’t aim to provide definitive answers, but to inspire dedicated people to pursue their own projects and dreams around the world.
Flip through it, be inspired, and help us spread the word!
