Sandbox: What’s Next?

In the Sandbox

Sandbox was founded in May 2009 and in a little over a year, it has become the foremost global community of extraordinary young achievers between 20 and 30. We identify entrepreneurial young people worldwide that have an impressive impact already at a very young age, no matter in what field or industry. We incubate these talents in an environment where they can build meaningful relationships with like-minded peers, learn from senior leaders and gain access to opportunities that will help them grow.

We took the occasion of the Summer to reflect on who we are and look forward at what we want to become. A lot of members have contributed with feedback and we will continue talking with everyone in the next weeks to make sure that we all share the same vision and work towards the same goals.

Our mission

Our mission is to accelerate our members and help them have more impact before they become 30. While other organizations incubate startups or projects, we want to incubate the most talented young achievers between 20 and 30. By now, we have over 400 members that meet monthly in 21 cities across the world, we have organized over 200 events and the community exchanges ideas on a dedicated online platform. We put great focus on careful selection and on making the network a trusted place.

A social entreprise

Sandbox is a social enterprise, built on the simple premise that empowering entrepreneurial young talents creates enormous value for society at large. We are a for-profit company, but the money we earn serves a higher purpose: build the most amazing community of young leaders under 30. We measure our success by how much impact our members eventually have in the world, not by how much profit we can make.

Earning money

Sandbox wants to have a long lasting impact and aims for profitability and financial independence. Sandbox will capitalize in the future on the fact that we know and understand the world’s most talented young leaders. Large organizations approached us to help them understand digital change and create innovative concepts. Together with our community we have finished 11 projects for a leading European city, for corporations like UBS, Volkswagen and Fraport.

So, what’s next?

We now want to take Sandbox to the next level within the next two years: we want to strengthen our position as the most valuable accelerator of 20 to 30 year old leaders, we want to become a globally recognized brand and reach profitability. To do so, we will launch a series of strategic initiatives: organize a yearly conference, introduce a variety of features to improve connectedness of our members, build up an editorial team which will give Sandbox and its members global exposure, structure the exchange between senior leaders and members by providing mentorships and building an active alumni community. On the business side, Sandbox will build up additional revenue through building a Sandbox fund, selling content from the network and leveraging its alumni community.

How you can contribute

Over the next couple of weeks, we will have several online meetings with the members to explain them our vision and get their feedback on several points. We have also started to organize vision discussions in different hubs. If you want to contribute, your feedback and ideas are very much welcome, don’t hesitate to contact me or to comment below. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
