Why I love Sandbox

Excited to join Sandbox
Things are changing fast. One and a half months ago, I graduated from university (I may call myself a «Master of Arts» now, which somehow sounds like the title of a wizard in «Harry Potter»). Shortly after that, I left for a truly amazing 5-week trip through South East Asia. And as of this week, I am joining the Sandbox team full time as Head of Business Development. I couldn’t be more excited about finally investing all my energy into our project. I will share more details on how I want to develop the business side of Sandbox later. For now, I’d like to take the chance to explain why I love Sandbox – and why I feel that our community has such great potential.
«Life is about the people you meet and the things you create together», reads the slogan of the blog my very good friend and Sandbox co-founder Fabian writes. At Sandbox, I’m lucky to work with a team with two very crucial attributes: We all want the same thing – making Sandbox a success -, but we are all very different. This means that we can look at a challenge from different perspectives without losing focus. And the fact that all my colleagues are very smart, hard-working and lovely people who were nice enough to cover my workload while I was sipping beer in Hanoi and trekking the temples at Angkor also helps. Thanks guys!
But Sandbox is not just made by the team. Sandbox is a global community of 350 (and counting) dedicated and smart young people. Working here means I get to interact with them on an everyday basis. That’s not only a privilege, it’s also great fun. Our community is sparking with ideas and thought – it’s a veritable rollercoaster ride of innovation. I honestly couldn’t imagine something I’d rather do.
And we’re not just talking, too: Sandbox aims to be a «productive» community that fosters collaboration and creates new projects and initiatives. We do our best to help with ideas that Sandboxers create together; and we aim at working together with our members to help our clients manage the new digital world, understand generational changes and come up with creative solutions. I truly believe that a distributed yet trusted community collaborating on a global scale is a model for the future.

One of our offices
Yet while we have big plans, Sandbox is still a small startup. This is a good thing; it means that we have a great and relaxed corporate culture. We work at the office as well as in cafés or, well, any other place we like. While we often work late, we usually drink beer when doing so. And occasionally, our CEO moonwalks through the office.
But the most important reason why I love Sandbox is a selfish one: It’s a company I co-founded and helped build. I have dreamed of creating something of my own, and I’m thrilled that it has worked out. I hope to be able to help grow Sandbox and make it the most active community for young talents worldwide.
If you wanna talk and share your thoughts on where Sandbox is going or should be going, feel free to get in touch. Looking forward to chat with you!
Nico, we couldn't be luckier to have you on board, Sandbox wouldn't be what it is without you, can't wait for all the good stuff ahead!
Great! Congrats for your graduation and have fun working full time! Will be great to follow sandbox success ;)
looking forward to seeing the business side develop, as another force for positive transformation in this world...
