Until today, potential members of Sandbox had to be invited by one of the founders in order to apply, and eventually be selected for being part of the network. From now on, an application form is accessible from the website, making it possible for everyone to submit his file to our selection committee. Sandbox being a trusted network, candidates have to be recommended by an existing member. Those who don’t know anyone will be introduced to one of them by the Sandbox team, provided they meet our basic membership requirements.

If you want to learn more about the benefits of joining, please have a look at the “Join” page of our website. We are looking forward to seeing your application being reviewed by our selection committee!

We had another great Sandbox dinner yesterday here in Zurich: The Thai food was excellent, and so were the conversations. A part of the discussion revolved around the question how to describe and label our generation. At Sandbox, we have been using the term “Generation Y” (because that’s what our generation is usually called), but haven’t really warmed to it. The “Y”, we feel, doesn’t express much – it’s just the generation between X and Z. “Generation Why?” already does a better job in capturing what this is all about: A generation looking for meaning and purpose in their constantly changing lives. Another term used a lot is “Digital Natives“, which probably expresses most clearly one of the differences between this generation and all the others before it: We grew up with digital technology and look at it as integral part of our lives. – What is your take on that? Do you have other descriptions for this generation?

Also, on a somewhat related note: Yesterday’s Sandbox dinner saw the unveiling of the first prototype of a new type of ultra-light airplane (see picture). The plane, its developers told your correspondent over a few Singha beers, will disrupt the airline industry. Stay tuned for more details.

I had the great pleasure to speak at the Entreprenörsdagen last Monday in Göteborg, Sweden, about Generation Y Entrepreneurs and their ways of doing business. I met so many exciting people in Sweden and will publish some of the video interviews I made in the next couple of days and weeks on this blog.

I wanted to share my presentation with everyone (find it here) (made with the great technology of Zuiprezi, Budapest, Hungary, many thanks for your support!) and also include selected background links which have inspired me. I’m very curious to hear what people think and would love to get feedback and suggestions for improvements for the next time.

Many thanks and congratulations to the organizers for their great work!
