Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What are your plans?

As a writer of fiction, essays and travel, able to earn a living and satisfy my intellectual curiosity by writing. I am currently working on a book about my time as a journalist in Congo (called ‘Wait, Explosion.’) and I have planned a series of books about the rise of Dubai, drawing on my childhood and my parents’ story, as immigrants from India.

Are there interesting trends you observed recently?

The demise of the publishing industry (especially in print: books, newspapers) is much talked about - with evidence that people are reading less offline content, with shorter attention spans, and so on. Though the shift is significant, it misses a broader and far more interesting point: regardless of the medium, the fundamental art of storytelling is thriving - whether in cinema, songs, print, blogs, in YouTube clips, or in the stories that products like the iPhone are trying to tell. Every day, humans are telling more stories.

What is the question you always wanted to have answered?

How can humans live without consuming the rich ecosystem that supports them?

I just came across your story and coincidentally enough, I grew up in D.R.Congo. I would love to talk to you more about your experience there as well. You can contact me though my email.
