Weekly Inspiration #17: The future of work
November 25th, 2009 by Sandbox
With a great part of the Sandbox team, we spent the week-end in Berlin at the occasion of the Palomar Summit. Palomar is a six-week innovation Camp with 30 young participants from all around and the Summit was a mix of keynotes by the residents and by external speakers. Check out our Palomar5 post for more information about the project. The overall theme was “The future of work” and this week, we have chosen to show you the most inspiring projects we saw at the Summit.
Dada
Dada is a device that allows to grab text and images from a screen, in order to easily share information with everyone. When putting it in front of a screen, it identifies the text and images and reproduces them on its own display. In the future, e-paper should be used in order to make the information grabbed a real phyiscal object without the need of a battery. This technology aims to make sharing information nearer to our natural behavior (take something and give it to someone) instead of using a complex series of steps that slows down our work flow (select, copy, open new email, paste, insert address, send).
The Egg
The Egg is a place to relax and meditate at the workplace. Totally soundproof, it helps you disconnect of your daily life, be yourself and see the world with a different eye.

Show me love
The Show Me Love Lab explores how to make work like love in a collaborative way. For the two residents at the origin of the idea, we shouldn’t need holidays, as every day of work should be the best day of one’s life. What could help you achieve this in your work environment?
Data DJ
The Data DJ project is a series of ideas, the most interesting of which for me was a revolutionary idea about our way to manage information: zooming in pictures should not only make them smaller or bigger, but also give us access to other layers of information. For example, if you have a picture of a human body, zooming in could show you first lead to an anatomical chart and ultimately to information about atoms.
King Arthurs Table
King Arthur’s Table is a place for the younger generation to discuss about the future, designed to help solve some of the most pressing world issues. It also aims to give new role models to the youth. The world stands before the biggest challenges in history: climate change, resources shortage, poverty, war, abandonment of human rights; these barbarian forces of darkness are a match for any knight.
